Charles Krakoff is founder and Managing Partner of Koios Associates, a U.S. firm specialized in investment and trade in emerging markets. He is also Principal Consultant with Cayenne Consulting, a firm specializing in strategic and business planning for both mature and start-up companies in a wide range of industries.

Charles has 25 years of experience helping companies enter, expand, invest, raise capital, and source in emerging markets worldwide, and helping governments and government agencies attract foreign investment and increase exports. He is also a expert in development of industrial and techno-perks and special economic zones and free trade zones, and has advised both governments and developers on strategy, feasibility assessments, environmental impacts, contracting, and management. Charles worked for six years as a consultant to the World Bank in the areas of business environment reform, investment and export development, and development of special economic zones. Before starting his own firm, Charles headed a pan-African advisory unit for Standard Corporate & Merchant Bank, South Africa, and was a Senior Associate with Abt Associates, a U.S. consulting firm, advising on privatization and PPP policies, strategies, and transactions in more than 10 countries in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. He also served as Senior Advisor to a $120-million private equity firm focused on Southern Africa, and co-founded a pan-African online business information company. He has advised numerous companies on cross-border investments and acquisitions, especially in Africa, and has industry experience in ICT, agribusiness, transport, mining, media, and financial services.

Charles regularly advises international financial institutions and fund managers on political and economic risk in emerging and frontier economies.

Charles’s clients have included Morgan Stanley, KPMG, Monitor Group, Bain, Fidelity, the World Bank/IFC, the Inter-American Development Bank, the U.S. Government, the U.K. Government, the United Nations, over 40 national and sub-national governments and public agencies, and over 20 multinational corporations. He earned an MBA in Finance and International Business from Columbia University, is fluent in written and spoken French, and has a basic knowledge of Russian and Spanish.
